This course will provide you with the theoretical and practical knowledge on how to safely and effectively care for someone with an enteral feeding tube (PEG tube)

Target Audience

This course is suitable for nurses and healthcare staff wishing to care and manage enteral feeding tubes (PEG Tubes)

Staff must be competent in the administration of medications to attend this course

Course Aims and Objectives

To explore the anatomy and physiology of the gastrointestinal tract
To understand the indications and complications of gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes
To explore the different features of gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes
To demonstrate how to care for someone with a gastrostomy and jejunostomy tubes including the daily checks required, the site cleaning, using the tube for administration of medication / feed and changing of the gastrostomy tube
To discuss what to do in an emergency
