Course Aims and Objectives

To explore the anatomy and physiology of the respiratory tract
To understand the indicators for and complications of Tracheostomies and Laryngectomies
To explore the different features of Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy tubes.
To demonstrate how to care for someone with a Tracheostomy / Laryngectomy including the daily checks required, emergency equipment, the site and inner tube cleaning, suctioning, and changing of the Tracheostomy tube
To discuss what to do in an emergency
