Moving and Positioning of People

Course Overview

This course is taught in line with the Manual Handling Operation Regulations, 1998 and Back Care Handling of People, Version 7 and will provide you with an understanding of techniques to safely and effectively move and reposition people

Target Audience

It is practical based course and is suitable for all staff that are involved in supporting individuals to move and reposition

Course Aims and Objectives

- To apply the legislation surrounding the moving and postioning of people
- An introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the spine
- To understand and perform appropriate risk assessments when moving and postioning of people
- To apply the principles of safe back care
- To demonstrate the safe and effective techniques for moving and positioning people relating to your own work setting including:
* the safe use of mechanical patient hoists and related sling application
* the safe use of slide sheets
* movement in bed
* the sit to stand transfer
